Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

05/07/2017 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Ethan improved his pop times behind the plate as he threw his lowest to date at 2.33. He shows a quick exchange and has accuracy on his throws with times continuing to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process. At the plate, hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays in side the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed in the high 600 range. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape and he has good feel to his changeup.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Ethan is a versatile player who can play multiple positions on the diamond. He is very coachable and has a willingness to learn and improve. Defensively at 2B, he is aggressive to come and get the GB. He squares up to the GB, funnels smoothly and has a clean exchange to throw. Continuing to develop his footwork/agility will help to increase foot speed and increase lateral range in the INF. Offensively, this RHH shows a balanced setup with rhythm in his hands. He has good zone awareness and waits for his pitch. Swing is level to and through the zone as he connects and uses the middle of the field. More separation in his load and swinging with more bat speed will result in increased power. On the mound, Ethan has a 3-pitch mix coming from a low 3/4 arm slot and free/clean arm action. He maintains quick tempo and works at his pace. He gets strong glove-side lead and stays directional toward the dish. FB ranges from 65-69 mph while showing slight tail. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with early action. He has good feel for his CH as he throws it with FB arm speed, helping to create deception. He pounds the zone with strikes and mixes well, keeping hitters off-balance. Continuing to develop his arm strength through a long toss program will help to add velocity on his FB. A 2018 grad - Citro still has a few years to develop his tools and get his game to where he wants to be.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
