Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

08/08/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Ethan is a well-built 1B/LHP prospect who shows ability at both positions. He has a live arm on the mound that gives his stuff good movement. He gets to a good balance point over the rubber to work in line to the plate. His arm stays in sync with his body throughout the delivery, helping him hit spots with his mid 70's fastball that shows tailing action. At the plate, Ethan has a patient approach, making pitchers throw him a pitch he can drive. He shows good tracking ability, picking up pitches early and not chasing out of the zone. Loading to a powerful bat angle will help him whip the bat through the zone and make hard contact to pick up more base hits. Defensively, he has a clean exchange on the backhand and understands positioning. He also throws from a good arm slot at 1B. Ethan is an intriguing prospect with some size and projectability, and we look forward to watching progress.

07/24/2016 - College PREP - Gaffney, SC Ethan is a tall, lean 1B/LHP with a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean as he works to square balls up. Glove action is soft as he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of double play. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing. He makes consistent contact and shows good barrel accuracy as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Ethan is a projectable 1B with two years to further develop, so he has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to develop his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
