10/16/2013 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Herron continued to show as a 1B/RHP at the event. At 1B, he displays good footwork around the bag and is a solid receiver. Hands are soft / clean and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more, play through, and improve backhand. At the plate, he shows a crouched/ squared setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a uphill swing path. He has strength in his swing and uses his lower half well with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to level out swing path. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 77-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be.
