01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Ethan Johnson is an athletic built C/3B in the 2025 class. He features good size with room to fill in his frame. His current qualities as a catcher give him a lot of upside at the position. Ethan shows solid blocking ability and does a good job staying firm with his glove when receiving. He showed a consistent 2.2 pop time and this should continue to improve as he gets used to his frame and develops more arm strength. At the plate he shows good discipline and the ability to consistently barrel balls up. A pull side approach with fast bat speed give him the traits of a potential power hitter at the next level. Ethan is a young prospect to watch with a very high ceiling. With 4 years of HS baseball left, he had the potential to turn into a very solid college prospect.

12/27/2020 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic Ethan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting potential has improved through an athletic setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 4 for8. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, but needs to work on getting down sooner and improve lateral movements. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.39. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and has great knowledge of the game. With 5 years to further develop, Ethan has a very high ceiling with time and room to progress his game.

Academic All-American Tournament (MS) Ethan is a C who will graduate in 2025. Tall frame athletic build with plenty of room to add throughout. He does a good job of replacing his feet and getting rid of the ball. Accurate throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and an arm velocity of 75mph with a best pop time of 2.35 seconds. Showed good receiving skills and ability to work thumb under keeping balls in strike zone. A left-handed hitter, he starts with a tall and closed stance. Low handset, with a simple load, and some quickness to hands. Has a fast bat through the zone, with pull side power, and a bat exit velocity as high as 80mph. Has a bright future on the baseball field with continued growth and development.

09/13/2020 - All-In Membership - Fresno, CA Ethan is an athletic C/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Pop times showed in the 2.54 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 5 years to further develop, Ethan has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
