01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (TX) Ethan is a C/RHP who showed well during the Pre-Season All-America Tournament. Behind the plate, Ethan shows active footwork and is aggressive moving to block. He sits in an athletic stance and receives with soft hands. His exchange is clean and he gets rid of the ball quickly, making on-line throws with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He is fluid to load and stays direct through the ball with fast bat speed, driving the ball to all fields. On the mound, Ethan gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline toward the plate, finishing with his chest over his front knee. Ethan shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 79mph with cutting action. Breaking ball sits from 57-64mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 66-68mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Ethan is a talented prospect who has the skill set to contribute at the next level.

10/25/2020 - All-In Membership - San Jose, CA Ethan is an athletic C/SS who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying excellent hitting / power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Pop times showed in 2.00 range with accuracy on his throws as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At SS, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers ground. Throws are accurate with carry (82 mph velocity) to his target. With 2 years to further develop, Ethan has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
