05/18/2014 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Ethan is a solid, young SS that will graduate in 2017. Defensive grades are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he moves well laterally and works to square balls up, displaying soft hands. He shows off his athletic abilities on his slow roller play. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more and plays through while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he is a switch hitter but currently shows slightly better from the right side. Hands are quick and work through a direct path to the ball. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more. With 3 years to further develop, Ethan has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
