09/05/2024 - All-Ripken Games - Baltimore, MD Evan Laskey is a solid all-around player who recently showcased his skills at the All-Ripken Games. On the mound, Evan is a competitor who works efficiently with his fastball clocked at 58 mph. He pitches to contact and trusts his defense, utilizing a three-quarter arm slot and showing confidence in his ability to get hitters out. Evan also fields his position well, demonstrating good awareness and athleticism. At the plate, Evan has excellent strike zone awareness, which was evident as he drew four walks over the course of the weekend. His open stance and smooth swing allow him to make consistent contact, and he collected four hits, including a double. Evan’s ability to get on base and contribute offensively is a key asset, and he also showed good instincts on the base paths as a solid base runner. With his well-rounded skill set and strong baseball IQ, Evan is a player with great potential.

08/03/2024 - BF Evaluation Experience at Pigeon Forge Evan is an athletic OF in the 2029 class. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting/power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing as he transfers weight into a firm front side. In the OF, he displays smooth/fluid actions. He takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. Feet are active as he works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Glove action is clean and presents out front. He moves well laterally with range increasing as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. With 5 years to further develop, Evan has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
