01/12/2024 - 2024 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament Evan is a tall 6ft 6/240 3B in the 2025 class. He recently impressed scouts with his actions at the BF Preseason All American event. In the field, he offers a strong and large target for his defenders. Runs well for his size (7.63 60 yd dash) and covers his area well. Arm works well from a high 3 qtr release and he stays in his legs and follows his feeds. Working to sink his hips will allow for hop adjustments. At the plate, he is a strong force (86 exit velo). He stays square to the dish and gains a positive load phase. Balance stays inside his feet and his barrel is on plane. Generates pull side production and working to stay through the ball with a closed front side will allow for more plate coverage. Overall, Evan is a gifted player and scouts feel he will have big spring and summer seasons.

07/17/2023 - National Showcase - Minneapolis, MN Evan is a big, strong third baseman/catcher out of Wayzata, Minnesota. Runs well for a large athlete coming in at a 7.38 in the 60 yard dash. Also does well moving laterally as proven by his quick 5-10-5 shuttle runs of 4.66 and 4.69 seconds. Defensively at third base, he fields in an athletic/squared position presenting his hands out in front and centers up the baseball consistently. Throws are online with carry. Behind the dish, he went as low as 2.19 seconds on his pop times and showed that same lateral mobility we saw from him at 3B. He could get a little lower in his catching position when receiving to eliminate the chance for balls in dirt to get past him. At the plate, he went as high as 83mph with his exit velocities. He shows quick hands that are on-plane and gets his lower-half through on a regular basis. With two years of high school left, we expect big things from McCarty as he heads into his junior year.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
