07/17/2010 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Fernando showed well at Team One West and projects as a solid 2-way player at the next level. At SS, Fernando has athletic actions, quick feet, and he fields the ball fluidly. He fields the ball in front of his body, he plays through, and his arm has life across the diamond to his target. On the mound, Fernando has a long, loose arm action and he throws strikes. He works in good rhythm, he attacks hitters, and he fields his position well. Pitching can further improve if Fernando and land online and keep his front side closed. At the plate, Fernando has good balance and load, and he is direct to the ball. He hits against his front side, gets proper extension through the ball, and he uses the middle of the field. Added bat speed and physical strength will help power numbers spike.

11/08/2009 - College PREP - Austin, TX Fernando is a young two-way player on the mound plus at SS with an athletic, lean looking body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best at SS for the next level. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.75 60 time as he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in coming to get, playing through the baseball with his feet and hands, displaying range. He displays soft hands and athletic actions showing near above average defensive abilities in the middle of the IF. Arm strength is near above average showing life, carry, and accuracy on his throws across the diamond. At the plate, Fernando has near above average abilities with solid average power through a balanced approach. Hands are loose to the ball as he gets the barrel through the ball, showing extension. He could get his lower half involved a little more, but has bat speed and pop to the pull side. On the mound, Fernando has above average arm strength showing a range of 78-83 mph with a good feel for his off speed pitches. He has a long fluid arm action and an easy delivery. Everything works on the mound. Overall, Fernando is a stud and is only a 2011 grad. Sky's the limit with this kid.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
