12/14/2024 - National Showcase - Palmyra (Harrisburg), PA Finnegan is a young and developing catcher and third baseman with a lot of promise. Behind the plate, he shows active feet and plays with great energy, demonstrating clean arm action and consistently replacing his feet on throws to second base. His quick exchange and solid carry from a high three-quarter arm slot help him make accurate throws. At third base, Finnegan showcases a strong and accurate arm, following through on his throws and tracking the ball well into his glove. At the plate, he starts with an open stance and keeps his chest behind the ball, using a direct hand path that allows him to consistently drive the ball to all fields. As a fifth grader just starting his baseball journey, Finnegan has plenty of time to refine his skills, and his foundation of athleticism and solid mechanics make him an exciting prospect for the future.

08/15/2024 - All-Ripken Games - Tennessee, TN Finnegan Matz is C/OF that recently played at the All-Ripken Games. At the plate he proved to be extremely disciplined as he never really chased balls out of the zone. He was able to draw three walks. But his offensive weekend was highlighted by three base hits including a triple. He just missed a 4th hit as he had a line drive out to left field. On the mound he has a fastball that was clocked at 54 mph and a change up that was 47 mph. He also had a breaking ball that reached 51 mph. He has a good tendency to pitch ahead of batters and has a very calm demeanor when on the mound. Overall, he is a very good ball player with a big upside.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
