08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Frank continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, power potential has improved, now showing as well above average through a tall, open setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He shows good plate discipline and makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Pop times showed in the 2.41 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a solid setup and tracks the ball well to the mitt with receiving skills improving as he becomes more flexible. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a solid team player.

05/06/2018 - College PREP - Colorado Springs, CO Frank is an athletic, switch-hitting C graduating in 2020. Behind the plate, Frank shows good range as he centers himself behind the ball and deadening dirt balls off the chest. He displays a square fielding position and firm hands, making clean exchanges into a short arm action (high 3/4 arm slot) and making accurate throws to his targets on a line. Frank can improve defensively by working on receiving and implementing a throwing program to increase throwing velocity. Offensively, Frank shows a spray type approach from both sides of the plate. He displays a tall setup with a square stride and a hand load. He keeps his balance center making square contact. Frank can improve offensively by working on separation and keeping his weight center when shifting his weight from the right side of the plate. With more development to his game, Frank can play at the next level.

08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Frank is a hardworking catching prospect who gives great effort and graduates in 2020. As a switch-hitter, Frank has a closed setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He takes a long stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Frank engages his backside and swings hard. He shows solid contact to the pull side and is developing consistency. Behind the plate, Frank has an athletic setup with a solid base. He tracks the baseball well and stabs at the baseball with his glove. He has a long exchange leading into a restricted arm action throwing from a side arm angle. He is building arm strength and accuracy on his throws down to 2B. Overall, Frank plays the game with the right attitude and has potential to advance his skills with development.

05/14/2017 - College PREP - Colorado Springs, CO Frank is a lean, young catcher who will graduate in 2020. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target. Pop times showed in the 2.43 range with accuracy to his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Hands are firm as he presents a low target well out front, and tracks balls in. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to get down quicker and cover holes. At the plate, he shows as a switch hitter but projects best from the right side. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to be on time. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Frank has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
