08/11/2010 - College PREP - Bear (Wilmington), DE Gabe is a two-way player as a catcher plus at 1B with a average, solid frame that shows projection as he continues to polish, firming up. Feet are active in gaining ground, showing proper direction to his target through a clean, transfer exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.20-2.36 with a means of 2.22. Throws show accuracy but must get on a long toss program to aid in further developing more carry and arm strength. At 1B, he is aggressive with his feet showing proper footwork around the bag. He presents hands down and out as he makes the routine plays. Offensively is where Encarnacion shows best through a balanced approach. He displays loose hands that work through a level swing path, flashing bat speed. He keeps hands through the ball at contact, displaying strength in his swing with ball jumping off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to transfer weight properly through the lower half. Gabe has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
