06/20/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 Gabriel continues to display steady improvement in his baseball abilities as he shows as a two-way player. Currently, he projects best at SS where he shows off his athletic abilities. He continuously displayed the ability to make plays in the middle of the IF. Foot speed is below average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in coming to get and playing through the baseball with his feet and hands. Defensive abilities are solid average. Arm strength is solid average as he showed the abilities to throw well on the run. He will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. At the plate, hitting abilities and power are solid average through an aggressive approach. H works to keep his hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He loads well displays some strength in his swing with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. At the event, he was 2 for 9 with a 2B. Gabriel has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

05/17/2009 - College PREP - Phoenix, AZ Gabriel is a RHP with a stocky looking frame that shows projection as he continues to polish and firm up body. Delivery is repeatable through solid mechanics. He gets to a solid balance point with on time separation but throws across his body as he steps closed. Tempo is a plus through the delivery. Arm strength is below average and he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. Fastball is flat but locates well down in the zone. Slider is his best off speed pitch showing slightly average abilities while displaying a short 10/4 shape with tight spin. Changeup is average showing a feel for with sinking action. Breaking ball is near average displaying an 11/4 shape with lazy spin and very little break. Stock on the mound will rise as more arm strength is developed.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
