01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Gabriel is an athletic, switch-hitting outfielder. At the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament, he showed a mature approach in the outfield with aggressive footwork and solid routes to the ball. Throws uphill at times, but has above average carry on throws and is accurate. Showed better offensively from the right side at this event. Has a balanced stance, and loads up effectively. Hands stay inside the ball and he uses the whole field. From the left side, he loads up well, uses his lower half, and attacks the baseball. Doesn't use the whole field as consistently from this side. He should make a solid college player.

10/06/2012 - 2012 Team One Texas Showcase Marte only showed in the OF at the event. Feet are quick / active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind balls, playing through well. Throws display carry / accuracy as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with proper footwork. At the plate, Gabriel continues to show as a switch hitter with abilities from both sides. He has rhythm in his swing and displays bat speed through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is plus with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered.

07/13/2012 - 2012 Team One South Showcase Gabriel showed well both in the OF and at the plate at Team One South. Defensively, Gabriel has active feet, he reads the ball off the bat well, and he throws with carry to his target. Offensively, Gabriel can switch hit, showing a balanced approach, a good set-up, and some decent bat speed.

03/04/2012 - College PREP - Greenville, SC Marte only showed in the OF at the event but has really improved his baseball tools, projecting as a solid collegiate player. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls in the OF as he takes proper first steps. He needs to improve foot speed and work to get behind balls more to continue to improve defensive grades. Throws show carry / accuracy as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, Gabriel showed as a switch hitter with abilities from both sides but projects better from the right side. He shows an athletic setup as he sits in well with hands working through a level swing path. Hands are quick, generating bat speed as he shows plus barrel accuracy from the right side with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered.

07/21/2010 - College PREP - Sanford (Orlando), FL Gabriel is a long, thin, 2-way player that will graduate in 2013. In the OF, Gabriel has good range, he tracks the ball well, and fields it cleanly. He has good hands, stays on top of the baseball, and throws accurately with carry from a 3/4 arm slot. If Gabriel can work around the ball more, and play more on the balls of his feet, OF skills can get better. At 1B, Gabriel has a good set-up, he has good range, and he moves well laterally. He moves well around the bag, he fields the ball cleanly, and throws accurately to his target. If Gabriel can field the ball further out in front of his body, and quicken his exchange, abilities at 1B can improve. Offensively, Gabriel has good balance and quick hands. He has a proper load, he makes good use of his backside, and he puts the ball in play. Gabriel will need to quicken his bat and improve his barrel accuracy for hitting numbers to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
