07/15/2010 - Cape Cod Training 2010 - Session 2 Mirabelli continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He threw his best pop time to date with 2.02 as his throws display carry and accuracy into his target. Receiving and blocking skills will player at the next level. Offensively, Gabriel shows a balanced approach with a short to long swing path through the baseball. He has quick hands, flashing bat speed as he shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off is bat when centered.

12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Mirabelli continues to show strong leadership behind the plate; he will take charge. Arm action was loose and easy as his hands and feet work well in getting rid of the baseball quickly through a solid setup. Receiving and blocking skills flash potential of being quality tools at the next level. At the plate, Gabe displayed a solid eye, making consistent contact as he was 2 for 8 with a 2B. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to stay back, transferring weight properly through the swing.

09/12/2009 - E-ACR - Maryland 8 Gabe has made great improvements over the summer months. He has an outstanding work ethic and continues to be a sponge on the baseball field. Shows leadership skills and will make a fine addition to a college program. Improved his pop times since we last saw him, feet work well, stays in line, gains ground, and has a small cheat. Receiving and blocking continue to be solid tools for him. Has soft hands, works around the ball, and has limited movement when receiving. Centers balls well when blocking, works well laterally and recovers with athleticism. Gabe has also worked hard at the plate; centers balls often and will use the whole field. Has a quiet launch and life in his hands. Gabe will certainly get looks from the college coaches.

07/21/2009 - Cape Cod Training 2009 - Week 3 Gabriel continues to show improvement with his baseball abilities, as shown with improved arm strength and hitting grades. Was a good leader behind the plate as he understands the game which is needed at the next level. Received and block balls very well throughout the week. Good athleticism allowed him to move quickly to center and deaden balls. Showed soft hands and the ability to get around pitches with low target. At the plate, had a relaxed approach which allowed his hands to be quick and direct to hitting zone. Used all fields while centering most balls.

12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 Mirabelli setup well behind the plate, and showed good hands and receiving skills. He showed some feel for the game in his ability to call pitches and work with pitchers. Needs to work on improving his arm strength and footwork to throw. At the plate, he setup well and got some extension through contact. Needs to calm down his load a bit in order to help him stay more square and in a more athletic posture throughout his swing.

08/12/2008 - College PREP - Wilmington, DE Gabriel had an excellent showing at this event because he improved most of his grades as well as his 60-time, H-1B time, and pop time at this event. At the plate, had a quick exchange that lead to him getting into good throwing position. Showed good low target with firm hands while receiving the ball. While blocking, goes straight down which eliminates any holes under the glove. Did good job of centering and deadening the ball in front of him and will only improve when foot speed increases for better angles. Long toss will help improve his arm speed and velocity. At the plate, had a no-stride approach that is squared up and good balance throughout the swing. When he keeps hands inside ball, he has ability to use all fields effectively. Will generate better gap power when he utilizes his lower half.

07/17/2008 - Cape Cod Training 2008 - Week 2 Mirabelli showed soft and sure hands behind the plate, is a confident receiver who can lead a pitching staff. His arm strength has continued to improve, now up to average, and he showed good leadership skills. Can work to quicken his feet and move into blocking position, and needs to stay on the throwing program - has potential to add more arm strength. At the plate, his approach was quiet. His bat path was level, and he did a good job of working the barrel through the hitting zone. Did a good job of spraying the ball to all fields. Must make sure to get to launch position on time, and needs to keep his front side closed more consistently. Overall, has shown great progress as a player and a leader.

06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008 Gabe had good work habits which showed with increased pop times. At the plate, shows a level path with solid contact when he has middle/opposite field approach. At times, he tries to pull everything and he gets away from his strengths when he stays up the middle. Would like to see a wider base for better balance. Behind the plate, shows good arm and ability to center and deaden balls when blocking. Needs to work on getting under and sticking low pitch. Also getting around low pitch on glove side.

12/27/2007 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2007 Mirabelli showed solid overall defensive ability behind the plate. Blocking was among his strengths, and he also setup well and received well - skills that are vital to build a young catcher on top of. Has room to improve both his arm strength and his exchange, and as these develop further his release times should improve. At the plate, he showed some quickness in his hands. Must work to keep his front side closed longer to allow him to maintain control of the barrel to contact, will help him level out his path and create more whip through the hitting zone. Overall, a young player with excellent work habits and some feel for the game. Has potential to improve in nearly all areas of his game.

08/05/2007 - Hall of Fame Training - 2007 Gabriel presented his love for the game and showed that he has a great work ethic. Gabe needs to relax and stop putting so much pressure on himself. Displayed that he can play a good 1B but needs to take more reps.

07/12/2007 - Cape Cod Training 2007 - Week 1 Gabe has improved drastically in one year. His great work ethic has shown a change in his body and arm strength. Displayed a fundamentally sound swing at the plate. Gabe should continue to get quicker and stronger with the way he works hard to improve.

07/19/2006 - Cape Cod Training 06 - Week 2 Gabe is a young, hard-working catcher with a bright future. He is a RH hitter with a short, repeatable stroke. He sprays line drives to all fields. He is refining his receiving, blocking and throwing skills behind the plate. We look forward to working with Gabe for the next few years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
