09/23/2020 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Gaelen is a coachable 1B/LHP prospect who showcased his skills during the Arizona Fall Classic. In the field, Gaelen starts in a good ready position and shows smooth footwork. He gets into position on time and makes the routine plays. His exchange is clean and he throws with a loose arm, keeping his throws accurate and strong through his target. Increasing his lateral range can help Gaelen make more plays. At the plate, this switch hitter sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and remains centered in his lower half. He takes a short swing with decent bat speed, leading to consistent contact and gap to gap pop. Gaelen can produce more pop off the barrel by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Gaelen gathers over the rubber and works with a quick arm. He stays inline toward the plate and keeps his pitches around the zone. Gaelen shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits at 63mph with 2-8 break. Developing a changeup can help Gaelen keep hitters more off balance. With three more years to develop, Gaelen has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.
