Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (TX) Gage continues to shine in many ways on the diamond. Offensively, this strong switch hitter steps into the box with intent. He works back into an activated load getting his hands into a strong launch position and is ready to jump on pitches he likes. Quick hands fire the barrel to and through the zone as he connects and creates good extension through contact. He battles with 2-strikes and proved to be a tough out. At 1B, he has active prep and moves well laterally. He is quick around the 1B bag adjusting his feet to throws up and down the line. On the mound, this RHP has sound mechanics and repeats his delivery well. He stays directional and pounds the zone with strikes. He moves his FB in and out while his CB has 11/5 shape with early action. Gage is a skilled 2-way prospect who has a ton of upside and will make an impact in a variety of ways at the next level.

10/07/2020 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Gage continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. He did show at 1B for the first time at the event. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar, outstanding abilities from both sides. He has a great approach and plan on what he is trying to accomplish at the plate. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He is going to hit from both sides of the plate at the next level. At the event, he was 2 for 5. At 1B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. He shows a strong, accurate arm with on line zip to his target. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Fastball shows good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

02/23/2020 - College PREP - Waco, TX Gage is an athletic and talented 2021 2-way switch hitting prospect that continues to improve. At the hot corner, Gage is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and he works from the ground up. From the right side of the plate, he starts in an open stance, he loads his hands back into the drive position, and he looks to drive the ball to the opposite side of the field. From the left side, he rotates his core to the ball, he attacks the inside part of the ball, and looks to drive the ball gap to gap. On the bump, Gage gathers over the rubber, he separates on time, and he works down hill in his delivery. He has good mound presence and attacks both sides of the plate. He has command of his fastball, he gets good depth on his curveball, and he commands his changeup. Gage is highly motivated and we hope to see his progress in the future.

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Gage is an athletic 2-way switch hitting prospect that was eager to learn. At 3B, Gage is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and works from the ground up. He plays through the ball and makes accurate throws from multiple arm angles. From the left side of the plate, Gage starts in a tall and open stance. He gets to balance with his lower half, he rotates his core, and looks to drive the ball gap to gap. From the right side of the plate, Gage starts in a tall and open stance. He loads his hands back into the drive position, he rotates his backside, and shows pull side power. On the bump, Gage gathers over the rubber, he finds a balance point, and works downhill in his delivery. He commands his fastball down in the zone and has good depth on his breaking ball with tight spin. Gage has a bright future and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/06/2019 - College PREP - Grapevine (DFW), TX Gage is a solid, strong 3B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with tremendous power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is firm and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Gage has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
