Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Gage is a 3B/RHP and continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. In the infield, he has plus lateral range, working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws zipping across the diamond. On the mound, FB jumps out of his hand and shows with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Gage has potential and will get looks from collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

06/10/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South Gage improved his foot speed and now is an outstanding runner as indicated by his 60 time of 6.96. Defensively at 3B, he shows active prep with fluid actions. He works around the GB and through it as he gains ground toward 1B. Exchange is clean with strong throws. Backhand is smooth with a quick release. Offensively, this RHH shows a quiet setup with simple actions. Hands are quick as he fires the barrel directly through the zone on a level path. He squares the ball up consistently and hits line-drives. Gage also has the ability to get on the mound and command the zone. He has a 3-pitch mix with his FB topping out at 80 mph. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with good action. Changeup shows good arm side run, complimenting his FB well. He has a ton of upside with a bright future ahead of him in the game.

12/27/2016 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Gage continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 82 mph. He displays a sound/repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose/free to the plate. Fastball shows good tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late/sharp break and shows potential as being a quality pitch. He shows good composure and competes on the mound. At the plate, he has improved his hitting abilities and power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 4 for 8 with a 2B and 4 BB as he displays a patient approach. In the MIF, defensive abilities are now well above average, showing quick, athletic actions. He attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Hands/feet work well together through the fielding process and he gets rid of the baseball quickly with life, accuracy, and on line carry across the diamond. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard on the diamond.

09/25/2016 - College PREP - Conway (Little Rock), AR Gage is an athletic SS/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At SS, he displays smooth/fluid actions. He works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft/sure but will benefit by presenting hands more out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds/turn of the double play. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws the pitch too hard with velocity at FB range. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 2 years to further develop, Gage has potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
