12/06/2009 - College PREP - Cedar Hill, TX Garrett is a solid C with strong tools. Most of his tools showed true in Cedar Hill, and his 60 time dropped from 8.08 to 7.94. Garrett has good footwork behind the plate, he stays low, and come out of the shoot quickly. His hands are soft, and his throws are online with life and carry to them. His arm strength is definitely a plus. His pop times have been as low as 1.97 and if Garrett can work on a shorter arm action, pop times could become even lower. Offensively, Garrett has good balance, bat speed, and rhythm. He is an aggressive hitter and does a nice job keeping his head and eyes on the baseball. Garrett's offensive numbers could further improve with a proper load and more extension through the baseball.

02/08/2009 - College PREP - Houston, TX Garrett continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities. Pop times dropped as indicated by his 2.09 low pop time with pop times being more consistent in the 2.18 range. He has polished up his footwork and transfer but needs to stay low coming out to throw. Pop times will continue to drop if he gets on a strict long toss program to further aid in developing more arm strength and carry on throws. Blocking skills have improved the most, now showing well above average. He shows off his athletic ability through the blocking process in getting his body down around the baseball showing proper angles. He moves well laterally and will keep the ball in front. At the plate, abilities are solid average with slightly average power. Hands are direct and he utilizes his lower half. Hitting grades will improve quickly with instruction and adjustments at the plate.

08/23/2008 - ACR-E - California - 3 Lewis has a tall lean frame that will be able to hold added muscle as he matures. He has improved several things since we last saw him. Once he fills out he will improve overall body control. Gains ground when throwing and footwork is direct. He will quicken pop times if he shortens stride, quickens exchange, and eliminates wrist flip on the backside. Showed some athleticism blocking, quick down, but needs to spread legs and get some spine angle. Also keep hands down. He showed the best at the plate. Short to the ball, balance, quiet load, and gets some extension. He can improve the lower half. Overall strength will improve his entire game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
