11/06/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona Garrett showed in the OF and on the mound for the first time but currently projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. Throws display life, carry, and accuracy through his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power grades through and athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path through an aggressive approach. He has pop in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 4 for 7 with a 2B and 3B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 60-63 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break He maintains arm speed arm speed on changeup with cutting action. Stock on mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, develop better off speed stuff and throws more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays with a lot of energy and is very coachable, working hard to be the best player he can be.

09/14/2014 - College PREP - Fresno, CA Garrett is a R/R OF who has skills. With the bat, he stands in well with a closed setup and solid base. He works back into a loaded position, delivers the barrel with quick hands and connects. He hits the ball on a line and uses the middle of the field. Power will increase with more lower 1/2 drive and extension through contact. In the OF, he hustles into position behind the fly-ball and secures it with 2 hands. He has a clean exchange, works in-line toward his target and fires accurate throws. A long toss program will help to increase arm strength. Only a 2018 grad - Garrett possesses the tools that will provide success in the upcoming years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
