07/26/2010 - Team One Midwest 2010 Garrett is an athletic OF with a good set of baseball skills. He has quick feet in the OF, and gets good reads on the ball. He has a quick 1st step, takes good angles to the ball, and he plays comfortably. He plays through the baseball well, and throws with good carry and life to his target. Garrett has sure hands, and if he can quicken his exchange, defensive numbers can further improve. Offensively, Garrett has an aggressive approach, strong actions, and good bat speed. He centers the ball well on the barrel and gets good extension through the ball. Garrett will be a player to keep your eye on as he approaches his Senior year.

07/17/2010 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Garrett is a strong, fast, athletic OF with a good body type. He has quick feet, the tracks the ball well, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He plays through ground balls well and direct with his throws to his target. Better angles to the ball will only help defensive numbers get better. Offensively, Garrett has a good load, good bat speed, and he stays inside the ball well. He has a short stroke, can work it gap to gap, and he has pop in his bat. Garrett will be a nice player at the Collegiate level.

10/21/2009 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic - 2009 Pierce has improved foot speed as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.89 runner as he utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in tracking proper routes / angles to track down balls in the OF, displaying plus range. He can go get the baseball improving defensive grades to outstanding as he showed quality leadership abilities in the OF. At the plate, Garrett displays a sound approach as he generates bat speed to and through the baseball at contact, showing a plus feel for the barrel. He was 4 for 13 with a 2B at the event.

06/13/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Garrett continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities. He shows as a two-way player in the OF and on the mound. Currently, he projects best in the OF. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 6.97 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in tracking down balls in the OF. Hands and feet work well together through the fielding and throwing process, displaying near above average defensive abilities. Arm strength is near above average in the OF displaying carry on his throws. He will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry. At the plate, hitting abilities and power are solid average. Hands are quick and direct, flashing bat speed. He was 5 for 9 with a 2B at the event. On the mound, Pierce has a near average fastball with average off speed stuff. He needs to concentrate his work ethic in the OF and at the plate where his future lies. With 2 years to further develop, Garrett has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

03/15/2009 - College PREP - Carson, CA Garrett brings a tall, lean, athletic frame to the diamond. In the OF he shows a live loose arm, has good extension, plays through grounder, and takes nice routes to the fly ball. On the mound Garrett shows nice extension out front, a good follow through, and a smooth delivery. This tall pitcher would become an even better pitcher by avoiding the dropping of head, gaining more control of curve ball, and not telegraphing his change up. At the plate Pierce shows a good load to get launched and throws his hips for more power. He would benefit by shortening up stance, staying back more, and staying inside the ball more to utilize the whole field. This young man shows lots of potential!

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
