04/29/2012 - College PREP - Adrian (Detroit), MI Garrett is a tall and lanky shortstop that will graduate in 2014. Defensively, he shows good pre-pitch preparation, active feet, and soft hands. He takes proper angles to the ball, uses the correct footwork on the double play, and has a good understanding of arm slots on double play feeds. He has a clean exchange to throw showing good accuracy and life out of the hand. He is well skilled for a player his age at the shortstop position. A few areas to work on were to keep his feet moving through the play and to stay low to throw. At the plate, he shows a crouched stance with his weight back and a short stride. He makes decent use of his lower half with a middle of the field approach. A better pre-pitch load with more rhythm and hand separation will allow him better bat speed. He needs to get his front foot down earlier to give him a chance to hit the ball out front and get his back hip through the ball. Garrett is someone to follow and with more strength and speed will be a player at the next level.
