01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Gaston played the middle INF at the UA Preseason All-America, and showed similar skills as he did in 10/09. Defensively, his hands and feet work well and he stays down on the baseball. Gaston works to get around the ball well and shows a solid backhand. He makes plays on balls hit his way, and with looser actions and lighter feet, defense can further improve. Offensively, Gaston has a compact swing with good balance and bat speed. His swing is in rhythm and he has a level swing path. More lower 1/2 rotation, and quicker hands will help Gaston continue to improve his offensive tool grades.

10/14/2009 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2009 Gaston continues to show steady improvement with his overall baseball abilities. At SS, he is a tremendous defender as he showed very good hands and the ability to make all the plays. Kept feet moving at all times which allowed for above-average range and played thru balls aggressively. Showed quick exchange as he made accurate throws. Stringent long toss program will improve velocity. At the plate, generated good bat speed with a line-drive approach. Had a solid approach as he stayed balance with level swing thru hitting zone with good use of lower half. Could generate some home run power when he stayed within himself.

06/28/2009 - Team One West 2009 During T1-West, he went 2-5 with HBP. In the middle INF, played ball properly from right to left. Moved decent laterally and made accurate throws after his quick release. Improved arm strength will allow him to play SS at the next level. At the plate, used his lower half effectively which helped produce gap-to-gap power. Had ability to keep hands inside ball which allowed him to hit ball to all fields. Showed a level swing and will have consistent barrel accuracy when he stays closed with front side.

06/28/2009 - Team One West 2009 - PVP Gaston has slowly, but surely improved his skill set within the past year. As a hitter, he shows a good approach, staying inside the ball consistently. At times he leaks forward, dragging and dropping his barrel, but more often than not, he stays back utilizing his lower body. Defensively, he is slightly heavy on his feet and stiff with some actions, but he has a solid glove and is fundamentally sound with his accurate throws. Gaston should continue to emerge as a solid infielder, and may show the versatility needed to play all the infield positions.

05/30/2009 - E-ACR - California 1 Gaston improved to a Class 4 by increasing his arm strength, fielding grade, and hitting grade. At SS, was clean while fielding balls out front with soft hands. Fields the ball from the right as he plays thru it and gets rid of it quickly. Showed good clean pivot and turns on double plays. Stringent long toss program will help improve velocity. At the plate, had good load with quiet actions that allowed him to have a repeatable swing. Showed life in hands and good use of lower half that produced gap-to-gap power.

09/21/2008 - College PREP - Azusa, CA Gaston continues to show a strong, physical frame. He has made some nice improvements at the plate, since we last saw him. It appears that he has softened his load and stride allowing him to see the ball better. He is not jumping at the ball as much, which helps him in utilizing his lower half much better. He also has a more level bat path, though he still maintains a slightly upward swing. He showed a good line drive approach to all fields as he kept his hands inside the ball. Defensively, Gaston flashed that same aggressive footwork towards the ball. His hands continue to work well out in front and his arm works in sync with his body. He'll benefit from a strict long-toss program for more carry on his throws and a solid speed-training program for quicker, lighter feet and added foot speed. Overall, Gaston is showing dedication by the hard work he is putting in. This dedication is showing through improved all around skill, which will help him reach his goal of playing at a quality college program.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
