06/20/2010 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Gavin is a lean, athletic, 2-way player, that plays OF and Pitches. He currently projects better in the OF, where he is aggressive to the ball and works behind it well. He has good rhythm, a decent 1st step, and he takes proper angles to the ball. Gavin gets through his throws well, and delivers the ball accurately to his target. Gavin can improve in the OF if he can get his glove down earlier and add arm strength. On the mound, Gavin has good direction to the plate and he gets good extension on his pitches. He throws strikes and shows good 12-6 shape with his CB. Gavin will need better balance and add arm strength in order to improve on the mound. Offensively, Gavin has okay balance, load, and is direct to the ball. He extends to the ball well, has great barrel accuracy, and he works gap to gap. If Gavin can add bat speed and not collapse his back side, offensive grades will improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
