03/03/2024 - National Showcase - Glendale (Phoenix), AZ Gavin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show in the OF for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the dish, feet are active as he shows good direction, working in line to his target. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.28 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He tracks the ball well and presents a firm mitt in sticking pitches. Working to get body down sooner to be on time will aid in improving blocking skills. In the OF, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth, fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking balls down and works to get behind ball, playing through with momentum to his target. He utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

01/13/2023 - 2023 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Gavin is a 2026 C who showcased his skills during the BF Rookie PSAA Tournament. Behind the plate, he showed athletic actions, with an easy sway, and tracks pitches well. Works with good direction towards second base as he replaces his feet and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Made accurate throws to 2nd base as he recorded an arm velocity up to 71mph and a best pop time of 2.47 seconds. Creates good blocking angles, with a good spine angle, and tucks his chin. At the plate, he sets up in an athletic and square stance with low hands. A controlled load, with a good rear hip turn, and showed good barrel control. He hit balls to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 63mph. At the event, Gavin showed good plate discipline as he drew 2 base on balls, and had 2 singles. Overall, Gavin is a good player who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

07/16/2022 - Baseball Factory National World Series at IMG Academy - (MS) Gavin is a 2026 C prospect who improved his skills during the National World Series. Behind the dish, starts in a relaxed posture, with a quiet head, and tracks pitches well. He replaces his feet and works with good direction towards second base. Made throws on the bag from a high 3/4 arm slot with an arm velocity up to 63mph and a best pop time of 2.7 seconds. On-time down and creates good blocking angles. Keeps his hands inside the ball and rotates his lower well to contact point. Made consistent contact with a bat exit velocity up to to 63mph during BP. During the event, Gavin showed good patience at the plate as he drew 4 base on balls and was hit by a pitch. With 4 years of continued growth and development, we foresee Gavin making huge strides on the baseball field.

05/22/2022 - All-In Membership - Chandler (Phoenix), AZ Gavin is a rising star in the 2026 class. Behind the plate, he receives well and works to catch the bottom of the ball. Has a strong athletic base in his set up and presents a clean and soft target. His exchanges are clean and uses short arm action. Demonstrates an over-the-top release (2.54 pop) and is accurate and in line to his targets. Tracks the ball well on blocks and keeps his head down. Working to replace his feet with his knees will allow further quickness and create solid chest angles on dirt balls. At the plate, he has barrel awareness and generates consistent contact. He begins in a tall and open stance and he is on time with the pitch. Gains separation and hits off a firm front side. Working on extension with his bat path will allow the barrel to stay in the zone longer and utilize all fields. Overall, Gavin is a player to watch as he continues to grow his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
