12/10/2023 - National Showcase - Thousand Oaks, CA Gavin continues to show as a top prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.84 with accuracy / carry (84 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, hitting / power potential is excellent through a squared setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 80-82 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late, sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Slider is harder with tight spin and short break. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. With 4 years to further develop, Gavin has a tremendous upside and will get looks from the top collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

07/16/2022 - Baseball Factory National World Series at IMG Academy - (MS) Gavin is a class of 2027 C/SS. He shows off a medium sized frame with some strength present for his age. Behind the plate, he shows accurate throws to 2B and decent footwork on his throwdowns. Shows good pocket awareness and creates angles when blocking. At shortstop, he shows fluid footwork and good range. Does a good job fielding the ball in the center of his body. Does a good job changing his armslot when fielding. Keeps his momentum to throw and has throws online across the diamond. At the plate, he hits from a square stance with a short stride. Does a good job using his hips to drive through the baseball. Shows a good finish through the baseball and hits to all parts of the field. Gavin is a talented player who we expect to develop nicely as he continues to grow.

02/27/2022 - All-In Membership - Visalia, CA Gavin Williams is an exciting young player in the 2027 class. He has a skillset that plays above his age and shows it well on the field. The tall-lean athletic framed SS/C possesses a plus defensive ability at both positions he currently plays. In the infield, he has good range, quick feet, and has carry on his throws across the diamond. As he matures he will continue to improve his ability of coming through the ball that complement his glove presence well. Behind the dish, his glove presence carries over from shortstop and he has good firm receiving hand that allows him to steal strikes. Additionally, the switch hitting defensive athlete shows the ability to hit for good contact from both sides of the plate. With the ability to hit balls hard through the middle of the field, Gavin's bat speed will increase with physical strength and give him potential qualities of a gap to gap hitter. This athlete is an exciting player to watch and expect for him to develop his tools as he has 5 years to build on them.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
