06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 George continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Defensive abilities have improved at 3B. He would to square balls up and plays through, displaying soft / clean hands. Behind the plate, receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. He is a leader and takes control of the game behind the plate. At the plate, hitting grade has improved now showing well above average abilities through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. At the event, he was 4 for 8. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays the game hard and is very coachable.

04/14/2013 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX George is a talented 2-way player as a C/3B. He has a solid build and is very athletic. He excels behind the plate and he sits in athletically and tracks the ball into his mitt. He is quick to block and moves well laterally getting around balls in the dirt and centering them off of his chest. At the hot corner, George maintains active footwork and gets around the ball and into a square fielding position. He is aggressive and plays through the ball well, gaining ground toward his target. At the plate, this right-handed hitter displays a square and crouched setup. He has good rhythm and get back into a solid load position. The barrel gets to and through the zone quickly as he creates good extension through contact and shows some pull-side pop. Power will increase as he incorporates more of his lower 1/2 into the swing. As only a 2015 grad, Valdez has a bright future in the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
