12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Gerard is a young, stocky, 2-way player that Pitches and plays 1st base. On the mound, Gerard has good balance, a long arm action, and he throws strikes. He works in good tempo, he mixes his pitches well, and he finishes in a balanced, athletic position. Mound effectiveness can get better if Gerard can stay tall, avoid flying open, and add arm strength. At 1st base, Gerard moves his feet well, he is aggressive on ground balls, and he makes the routine plays. He gathers himself well and throws with average accuracy to his target. INF skills can get better with quicker feet, and fielding the ball further out in front of his body. At the plate, Gerard has a strong swing, decent bat speed, and his swing path is level. He did a nice job of putting the ball in play in live at bats, and he can improve overall hitting by keeping his hands higher and shortening his swing.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
