07/12/2013 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Grant continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Arm strength has improved the most, now showing slightly above average with throws displaying accuracy. He will benefit by continuing to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power grades have improved through a closed setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball, to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At 2B, feet are active as he displays proper footwork through the fielding process and displays clean hands. He needs to present glove / hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable.

02/21/2011 - College PREP - Trumbull, CT Grant is a young, thin, 2-way player who plays 2nd base and pitches. Defensively, Grant has soft hands, playable feet, and he makes the routine plays. He fields in a square position, follows his flips for the double play, and he squares his body well to his target. Grant has a 3/4 arm slot and he delivers the ball with accuracy to his target. Defensive grades can get better if Grant can quicken his feet, use more lower 1/2, and add arm strength. On the mound, Grant has a decent idea, a loose arm action, and he repeats his delivery well. He keeps his eyes to his target, he works in good rhythm, and he keeps his shoulders level. Mound effectiveness can get better if Grant can drive more with his legs, improve his command, and add arm strength. At the plate, Grant has an open stance, proper load, and short / square stride. He makes consistent contact and uses his lower 1/2 well. Offensive tool grades can get better if Grant can avoid lunging, throw his hands more directly to the ball, and quicken his bat.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
