07/26/2008 - ACR-E - Maryland - 6 Greg improved in every category since the last time we saw him. Behind the plate, showed loose arm action with decent carry on throws to 2B. Throws from open position which makes him fall off toward 3B after throw. Pop times will improve with a quicker transfer. While receiving, has firm hands with ability to catch out front. Would like to see a lower target so pitchers can work down in zone. Took good angles to block which allowed him to center and deaden ball. Used hands instead of legs. At the plate, good set-up with square stance. Had good bat speed with use of all fields and showed pull-side pop. Back foot never stays planted and he lunges for ball which will not allow him to utilize lower half. Flies open with front hip which makes him cut off swing and have tough time with ball away. On the mound, had a compact delivery with ability to fill up strike zone. Had good separation, direction with glove side lead, and deception. Inconsistent with extending thru pitch because he falls off to 1B after release. Would like to see him keep eyes on target. Long toss will help improve arm strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
