04/23/2017 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA
Griffin is a hard working player who continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid runner at 7.37. Defensive abilities at 3B have improved as well. Feet are active as he moves well laterally, displaying range. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a flat / simple approach. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph with heavy action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.
11/10/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City
Griffin showed in his time at Pirate City that he is a hard working player, who has the qualities of a good teammate with leadership abilities. At 3rd base, he was aggressive in attacking ground balls and getting the hop he wanted. Lateral range was strong, as was his ability to field slow rollers and make plays on the run. Offensively, he was a patient hitter who made solid contact when he got his pitch. Balance and rhythm were strong throughout his swing, as he made solid contact with a quick bat and a quiet head. Getting his hands into a load position pre-pitch will help improve power to all fields. Also a pitcher, he threw a low 70's fastball, which he did a fine job of keeping down in the zone, a high 50's curveball that showed some late break, and a changeup which was his overall best pitch, as he did a great job of throwing it with FB arm speed and keeping it down in the zone. Griffin has a great passion for the game and shows impressive skills on both sides of the ball. He has a bright future ahead of him.
03/06/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Hightstown, NJ
Griffin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a short / compact swing path. He works inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive type approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. At 3B, feet are active as he works to square balls up and displays clean hands. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. On the mound, FB ranges from 64-68 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 downward shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Griffin has abilities with time and room to continue to progress his game.
12/12/2015 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18)
Griffin starts from a square, athletic stance in the box and utilizes a soft and square stride as a trigger for his lower half. The hands should become activated by pushing them up and back slightly to create separation with the stride foot in the launch position. Griffin has a simple, short stroke to the baseball and stays inside the ball well and will benefit from allowing the ball to travel deeper into his hitting zone more consistently with proper contact points. A 2019 graduate, as Griffin adds strength, he will see more ability to utilize the lower half and core to help drive the baseball and get greater extension through the baseball at contact.
08/13/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the Under Armour All-America Game
Griffin continues to work hard and show improvement on the diamond. This two-way player has shown improvements in his arm velo, foot speed and stock on the mound. On the mound, Griffin pounds the zone with a loose and free arm action from the Hi 3/4 slot. He works both corners well with a competitive mindset. As he works to develop a more consistent delivery and use his lower half, he will start to see stronger, more repeatable pitches. Defensively, Griffin displays a strong arm, which will help him transition to SS very soon. His feet are quick with smooth hands. By getting into a lower fielding position and by playing more through the ball, he will see his skills in the INF improve. At the plate, he hits from a balanced stance and swings directly to the ball with quick hands and long extension. As he develops overall strength, he will see his lower half engage more into his swing, giving him pop to all fields. Griffin is a hard worker who still has a ton of time to develop and physically mature.
03/08/2015 - College PREP - Hightstown, NJ
Griffin is a young, 2-way player as a RHP/2B. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point and repeats his delivery well, working in-line toward the dish. FB ranges from 61-64 mph while showing slight arm side run. Curveball has 10/4 shape with gradual break. He keeps his eyes on the target, maintains level shoulders and throws strikes. Getting on a long toss program will help to strengthen arm and increase velocity. At 2B, Burd shows active pre-pitch footwork while moving well around the GB. He fields it cleanly and makes accurate throws to 1B. Working from the ground-up will help to avoid getting the in-between hop. With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced approach with a solid base. He has quiet actions and delivers the barrel on a short/direct path through the zone. He connects and squares the ball up. Improving his rhythm/timing will aid in his offensive development. Only a 2019 grad - Griffin still has a ton of time to progress on the diamond.
