Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament In Hunter's latest Baseball Factory event, he showed only at shortstop. Defensively, the junior plays hard and makes routine plays, but needs to become more consistent. By getting more reps and following his throws completely, he will be an all around better player. At the dish, he is a contact hitter with a sound approach. He continues to stay up the middle of the field well and shows good plate discipline. Overall, with increased foot-speed/agility, Hunter projects nicely at the next level at either second base, or shortstop.

08/05/2012 - College PREP - Dublin (Columbus), OH Hunter is a tall and lanky two way player that will graduate in 2014. On the mound, he shows a repeatable delivery with a free arm circle getting good extension out front. He keeps his shoulders level, is in line to his target and lands closed with his front leg causing him to throw across his body. He shows good command with the fastball throwing from a 3/4 arm slot with lat arm side run. His change-up is his best off speed pitch showing good arm speed and some lat sink. His curve ball has 11/5 shape with slight movement looking more like a slider. A solid long toss program and physical strength will help him develop more arm speed. At shortstop, he shows good feet, proper angles to the ball and soft hands. He makes accurate throws to his target and makes the routine play. He needs to continue to work on a lower fielding position to help field out front, a quicker release to throw and more arm strength. At the plate, he shows an open stance with no stride and is a contact type hitter. He uses the middle of the field well and shows good plate discipline. He needs more pre-pitch rhythm, a better load to get more out of his legs and more strength to help with bat speed. Hunter is very young and needs to work hard on foot speed and strength to continue to improve his all around game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
