01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Hunter is a two-way player in the OF plus on the mound with a lean, athletic looking body that shows projection as he continues to mature. Currently, he projects best on the mound for the next level but has abilities in the OF. Delivery is sound, showing proper mechanics that allows his arm action to work clean, loose and easy to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 84-89 mph with hard action. Breaking ball displays downward tilt with solid depth. Changeup shows a solid feel but lacks movement. He attacks hitters as he is around plate with all his pitches. Defensively, foot speed is a plus as indicated by his 7.14 60 time. He utilizes his quick feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls in the OF. Offensively, Smith lets the ball travel, working to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through an aggressive approach. Power numbers will increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. Hunter has an upside on the mound and will be a solid closer type arm at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
