10/28/2009 - Arizona Fr/So Fall Classic - 2009 Hunter is a young, 2013 graduate that shows as a catcher with a solid average body with projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is slightly above average as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active working in line to his target but takes big stride causing loss of balance / body control. Transfer / exchange are quick into a short arm path as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.25-2.40 as he shows an inconsistent release point due to loss of balance. Arm strength is solid average as he needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, lowering pop times. Receiving and blocking skills are solid average flashing potential to be quality tools at the next level. At the plate, Wood is a switch hitter that shows solid average abilities with slightly above average power from both sides. He loads well, taking hands directly to the baseball, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Lower half works well, transferring weight from the backside into a firm front as he shows a solid feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He was 3 for 8 with a 2B at the event. With 4 years to further develop, Hunter has a lot of potential with the makings to be a solid collegiate catcher as he continues to improve.
