07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Ian is a strong, athletic SS/RHP who is a prospect on the diamond. Foot speed is tremendous as indicated by his 60 time of 6.77. At the plate, hitting / power potential is outstanding through an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path, creating bat speed. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Lower half works well through the swing with strength and he shows a plus feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. At SS, defensive abilities are well above average, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works around and plays through balls with his body. He moves well laterally. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he takes proper first steps and covers a lot of ground. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and carry across the diamond. On the mound, he continues to shine. Fastball shows a range of 83-86 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break and shows potential as being an outstanding pitch. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude, works hard, and is a student of the game. Ian has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
