01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Ian is a solid, athletic LHP/1B who will graduate in 2020. On the mound, he shows a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 68-71 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He shows good mound composure and competes on the mound. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. At the plate, he shows a tall, squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields, flashing gap to gap pop. At 1B, he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. Footwork around the bag is solid and he is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable. With 3 years to further develop, Ian has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
