08/07/2023 - National Showcase - Redmond, WA Ian continues to show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.14 runner. At 3B, defensive abilities are well above average as he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork in attacking and playing through ground balls well. Hands are clean and presents out front. He utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with carry (82 mph exit velocity) to his target. At the plate, hitting abilities are solid with well above average power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn.

10/26/2022 - Baseball Factory Best of The West - Upperclass Ian is a 2024 RHP/3B who showcased his skills during the Best of the West Tournament. At 3B, he tries to create good fielding angles, with active/efficient footwork, and fields from an athletic fielding position. Good first step reads enable him close distance on batted balls. Showed good hands and glove actions. Made accurate throws across the diamond from a high 3/4 arm slot with good carry. On the mound, he works exclusively from the stretch. Ian separates his hands on-time and works with good direction down the mound. Attacks hitters with a FB topping out at 74mph, and an 11/5 shaped breaking ball. At the plate, he sets up in an athletic and even stance with high hands. On-time rhythm to his swing, with a controlled stride, and is centered at contact. Made hard contact to the pull side during his round of BP. At the event, Ian showed good plate discipline as he walked 3 times and had 3 base knocks. Overall, Ian is a good player who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
