10/27/2010 - Arizona Fr/So Fall Classic - 2010 Jack is a young (2013) two-way player at 1B plus as a LHP with a tall, lanky frame that is well suited for his positions and shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Footwork around the bag is a plus and he shows a solid feel for the position. He needs to be more aggressive on his approach on ground balls but makes the routine plays. Throws show accuracy but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry. Offensively, Herzing shows a solid setup with a strong recognition of the strike zone. He makes consistent contact as he was 2 for 5 at the event but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential at the plate with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 80-84 mph with sinking action on a strong downhill plane that creates tough angles on hitters. He shows plus command to both sides of the plate with fastball. Off speed pitches show potential as being quality out pitches at the next level. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with tight spin and late action. Changeup shows average feel for with tailing action. He attacks hitters, changing speeds well with all his pitches. With 3 years to further develop, Jack has an upside on the mound and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his abilities.
