07/24/2024 - Baseball Factory Teams - Southwest Championships 18U Jack Sumpter is a promising 2026 catching prospect known for his athleticism and consistent performance. Recently, Jack achieved personal bests in both the broad jump, with a distance of 8'2", and the 60-yard dash, clocking in at 7.15 seconds, showcasing his speed and explosive power. Behind the plate, Jack’s standout skill is his exceptional blocking ability. He consistently keeps pitches in front of him, ensuring minimal opportunities for opposing baserunners. This skill is further enhanced by his strong, accurate arm, which makes him a reliable threat against would-be base stealers. As a right-handed hitter, Jack displays a balanced, even stance at the plate. His swing is compact and efficient, allowing him to use the entire field effectively. During the tournament, Jack’s approach paid off as he went 3-for-8 at the plate, demonstrating his ability to contribute offensively. Overall, Jack Sumpter's blend of athleticism, defensive skills, and reliable hitting make him a standout catcher with great potential for future success.

05/19/2024 - National Showcase - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Jack continues to show as a prospect with his baseball abilities on the diamond. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering ball well out front. Pop times showed in the 2.03-2.08 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he utilizes his foot quickness (7.16 60 time) in covering a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach, flashing gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. With 2 years to further develop, Jack has a big upside with time and room to progress his game.

02/25/2024 - National Showcase - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Jack is a SS/C prospect who will graduate high school in 2026. At SS he plays under the baseball and has a low funnel. He fields from an athletic fielding position with soft hands out front. He made accurate and on-line throws to first base, with a quick release, and an arm velocity up to 77mph. Behind the dish he shows an easy sit and tracks pitches well. Has an athletic and low secondary stance. He works thumb under ball and gains ground to second base. Made on-line throws to second base with a best pop time of 2.07 seconds. At the plate he has simple and adjustable swing. A flat barrel path allows him to hit balls to all fields. Jack should continue to improve in all phases with continued growth and development.

12/27/2023 - Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Jack is a 2026 C/SS who showcased his talents at the BF Recruiting Classic. Behind the plate, he starts in a athletic position and presents a good target for pitchers. With runners on, he does a great job staying in his strong base and replaces his feet to throw. He gets rid of the ball quick and throws from a high ¾ arm slot and had a raw velocity of 76 mph. His best pop time of the event was 2.25 seconds. When blocking, he has effective footwork and a good chin tuck. At the plate, he has a relaxed stance and loose hands. He has good rhythm and gets his lower ½ thru. He showed good consistent contact and barrel control. In game, he picked up a pair of singles and a triple. We foresee that Jack will continue to catch the eyes of scouts going into his senior season.

08/01/2023 - National Showcase - Irvine (Los Angeles), CA Jack is a lean C/SS who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. Pop times showed in the 2.10 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. With 3 years to progress, Jack has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
