Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

05/20/2018 - College PREP - Redwood City (San Francisco/San Jose), CA Jack is an athletic built 1B/LHP who has a versatile skill set. In the field, Jack plays with effective footwork and makes good reads on the ball. He has great range in each direction laterally. He fields the ball with a firm glove and does well with double plays. Jack plays through the baseball with good momentum towards his target. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a loose arm action showing strong throws across the diamond. Offensively, Jack has a tall setup with his weight in the back of his stance. He has fluid rhythm with an on-time stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Jack shows fast bat speed producing consistent contact. He has the ability to use all fields and the ball jumps off his bat. On the mound, Jack has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He stays square to home plate and can benefit from a longer stride. He effectively uses his front side and does a nice job rotating with his hips. Jack commands his fastball with run movement and medium breaking curveball. Overall, Jack is a well-rounded prospect who has skill on both sides of the ball giving him upside on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
