11/10/2024 - National Showcase - Marlborough (Boston), MA Jackson, a 6th grader, is a promising player with skills as both a catcher and a right-handed pitcher. As a catcher, he demonstrates excellent fundamentals, works thumb-under-ball and good direction on his throws, consistently hitting the bag with a loose arm stroke and overhand release. His arm velocity reaches up to 59 mph, showcasing strong potential. Jackson is quick to get down on his blocks and effectively covers the five-hole, displaying a solid defensive presence behind the plate. On the mound, he achieves a good balance position and shows controlled landing, with a simple and repeatable delivery. His fastball and change-up are effective pitches that he commands well. At the plate, Jackson hits into a firm front side with a strong lower half turn, maintaining balance throughout and using a flat barrel path to make consistent contact. Though he is still young and developing, Jackson has a bright future ahead as he continues to refine his skills and grow as a player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
