07/07/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Richmond, VA Jacob continues to shine on the diamond with his baseball abilities. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Pop times showed in 2.06 range with accuracy / carry (92 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

04/18/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Washington, DC Jacob continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements (7.09 60 time) allows him to get his body down quickly, deadening balls while centering out front. Pop times showed in 2.00 range with accuracy / carry (93 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side.

09/13/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Ruther Glen (Richmond), VA Jacob is a pure catch and throw backstop who also will make an impact with the bat. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Runners will not want to test his arm (95 mph velocity) or impressive pop times of 1.94. Offensively, he continues to shine with well above average hitting / power potential. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage, resulting in a barrel explosion (85 mph exit velocity) with the ball screaming off of his barrel. Jacob has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jacob is a very talented/athletic catcher who shined during his time at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. With the bat, this RHH displays a balanced setup with a solid base. He has fluid rhythm to load, whips the barrel quickly on a level path, and squares the ball up creating consistent/hard contact. He has a good eye for the zone proven by drawing 3 BB's in game AB's. Behind the dish, Blais sits in low/athletic/quiet and tracks pitches into a soft mitt. Transfer/exchange is clean as he works in-line toward his target with zip on his throws (91 mph) putting the ball on the bag. This 2021 grad is a skilled prospect who will be sure to garner attention of coaches at the next level.

06/02/2019 - College PREP - Woodbridge (DC), VA Jacob is a prospect on the diamond as he continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop time have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.94 with accuracy and zip (87 mph velocity) on his throws. He tracks the ball well and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. He utilizes his lower half well and shows a plus feel for the barrel.

03/17/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Ashburn (DC), VA Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.12. Behind the plate he shows flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he utilizes his body well and is a wall. Receiving / blocking skills show as a quality tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.00 with on line zip (85 mph velocity) through his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He makes consistent contact through a solid line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Jacob has the makings of a special type player with time and room to continue to progress his game.

12/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Jacob is an athletic and talented 2021 catching prospect that worked hard all week. Behind the dish, Jacob starts in a balanced primary and has an athletic secondary stance. He works behind the ball and is on time on pitches in the strike zone when receiving. He leads with his glove and controls balls in the dirt when blocking. He has a clean exchange, efficient footwork and creates rhythm in his lower half when throwing to the bases. At the plate, Jacob starts in an open stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and hits off a firm front side. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and create backside rotation with his lower half. Jacob will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

06/24/2018 - College PREP - Columbia, MD Jacob is a lean, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.19-2.40 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He sticks balls well in the zone through the receiving process. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the dish. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are quick and work through swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. With 3 years to further develop, Jacob has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
