01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Jacob is a projectable (6'2"/185) 2-way prospect who showed very well during his time at the Pre-Season All-America Tournament. On the mound, this righty has an effective 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) in which to attack hitters with. He works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and drives downhill, in-line toward his target. Mechanics are sound as he repeats his delivery well. FB ranges from 76-78 mph as he keeps it down in the zone and gets GB outs. CB has 10/4 shape with tight spin and good action - showing to be a solid 'K' pitch. He mixes well and keeps hitters off balance. At 3B, Jacob has active prep as he works fluidly right to left into an athletic fielding position. Hands are soft as he gathers and fires strong/accurate throws across the diamond (85 mph) with the ability to throw on the run and from multiple angles efficiently. At the plate, this righty stands in well with good balance and rhythm to load. Swing is quick as he hits against a firm front side. He squares the ball up and sends it flying to the deep parts of the park (exit velo = 91 mph). Borchert is a skilled 2-way player who will make an impact in his senior year in preparation for the next level.

12/02/2018 - College PREP - Lynwood (Chicago), IL Jacob is a solid, strong RHP/3B who will graduate in 2021. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he works in line to his target. Fastball shows a range of 72-75 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard resembling fastball velocities. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 3B, he displays clean actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is soft / clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Jacob has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
