07/10/2018 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Jacob is a hardworking 3B/C prospect who has a versatile skill set. As a right-handed hitter, Jacob has a closed setup with his weight in the back of his stance. He has a closed stride and can benefit from better lower half engagement throughout his swing. Jacob has a short swing path and tracks the ball well. He keeps his head still and is developing bat speed. Jacob is a contact type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. In the field, Jacob works hard and makes the routine plays. He fields the ball in a stiff position and stabs at it with his glove. Jacob has a long exchange leading into a restricted arm action. He has the ability to adjust his arm slot depending on the play. He shows accurate throws across the diamond. Overall, Jacob is a coachable prospect who has the ability to elevate his skills with development.

04/15/2018 - College PREP - Fayetteville, AR Jacob is a solid 3B/C who will graduate in 2020. At the plate is where he shows best through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 3B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is soft but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves as he increases foot quickness. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.78 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup and sticks ball in zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner to improve grade. With 2 years to further develop, Jacob has abilities with a lot of room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
