10/07/2020 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.13 runner. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together as he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. He shows a strong, accurate arm with on line zip (87 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and works through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. Fastball shows good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

03/01/2020 - College PREP - Wilson, NC Jacob is a tall 2B/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At 2B, Jacob shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate with carry through his target. Smoothening his release can help Jacob improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and maintains center balance. He takes a short swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and line drives to all fields. Jacob can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Jacob gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He keeps his eyes on target throughout his motion and finishes with a controlled landing. Jacob shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 74mph. Breaking ball sits from 62-63mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 68-69mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Loosening his arm action can help Jacob improve as a pitcher. Overall, Jacob is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

08/11/2019 - College PREP - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Jacob is a tall 2B/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. In the field, Jacob shows agile range and fields in a square position. He makes a clean exchange and makes accurate throws to his target. Fielding the ball out in front of his body can help Jacob improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He shows fluid rhythm and takes a direct swing, leading to loud contact and line drives. Jacob can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Jacob gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes with a controlled landing. Jacob shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 70mph. Breaking ball sits from 58-60mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 62-64mph. Loosening his arm action can help Jacob improve as a pitcher. Overall, Jacob is a developing prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

06/16/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Jacob is an athletic and talented 2021 2-way prospect. He was very coachable and worked hard all week. At 2B, Jacob is on time with his prep step and has a good first step to the ball. He is sure handed and makes the routine play. He needs to continue to plays through his backhand and create more efficient angles side to side. At the plate, Jacob is a contact hitter that looks for the ball middle-out and looks to go the other way. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball, stay compact throughout the swing, and create backside drive to generate more power in his swing. On the bump he has good run on his fastball but needs to throw his breaking ball down in the zone more consistently. He finds a consistent balance point, separates on time, and works downhill. Jacob was a good teammate and we hope to see his progress in the future.

03/10/2019 - College PREP - Raleigh, NC Jacob is a tall 2B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2021. In the field, Jacob shows fluid footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws consistent with carry through his target. Removing his glove pat can help Jacob improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance with center balance. He takes a level swing and produces solid line drives. Jacob can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Jacob keeps his eyes on target and separates his hands on time. He extends through his release and finishes with a controlled landing. Jacob shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph. Breaking ball sits from 58-60mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 65-67mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Jacob improve as a pitcher. With two more years to develop, Jacob has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
