01/10/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a bright future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Receiving/blocking skills show as excellent tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.08 with accuracy/carry (80 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, hitting/power have improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick (84mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing and he shows a plus feel for the barrel.

09/08/2019 - College PREP - Fresno, CA Jacob is an athletic and talented 2022 catching prospect. Behind the dish, Jacob starts in a quiet primary stance, he presents a low target, and works under low balls. He works behind the ball and controls the ball in the strike zone. When throwing, he has a clean exchange, gains ground, and has a quick release. When blocking, Jacob leads with his glove, he gets his lower half into a strong position, and creates a good angle over the ball. At the plate, Jacob starts in a squared stance, he loads his hands back into the drive position, and creates backside drive with his lower half. He has a direct swing path to the ball, and looks to drive the ball to all fields. Jacob will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
