06/03/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Jacob is an athletic built C/RHP prospect who has an above average skill set on both sides of the ball. Behind the plate, Jacob has a simple, athletic setup and moves swiftly with good body control. He presents a low, effective target and receives the ball with a firm glove. Jacob does a nice job blocking the baseball and staying square to the field. He has a quick exchange leading into a short arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has good momentum through his release and his throws are consistent with good strength. His POP times range from 1.95-2.09 seconds down to 2B. Offensively, Jacob has an athletic, square setup with a centered balance. He has fluid rhythm with a short, square stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. He shows fast bat speed with an on-plane swing path to produce hard contact. He gets good rotation with his core and extension with his hands at contact. Jacob has a line drive approach who can drive the ball to each gap. On the mound, Jacob works downhill with a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has a loose, free arm action and extends through his release with a controlled landing staying square to home plate. He has good run on his fastball at 82-85 MPH. His slider is sharp at 68-73 MPH. Overall, Jacob is a polished ball player who has potential to be a difference maker at the next level.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
