Official Scouting Report

  • LHPPosition Projection

09/10/2017 - College PREP - Kansas City, KS Jacob is a talented LHP prospect. At the plate, Jacob has an athletic stance and is on time with his stride. He allows the ball to travel and consistently drives the ball to the opposite side of the field. Using his lower half will allow him to continue to make hard contact gap to gap. On the Bump, Jacob stays balanced over the rubber, separates on time, and rides his back leg to the plate. Continuing to develop his secondary pitches will make Jacob a more complete pitcher. Jacob continues to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/10/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and showed for the first time in the OF. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he has improved the most in his hitting potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works proper angles in tracking down balls. Glove action is soft / sure as he presents hands well out front. Working to get behind balls to play through with momentum to his target will aid in improving defensive abilities. Range will increase as he increases foot quickness. On the mound, he shows from a submarine arm angle. Fastball showed a range of 66-67 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches, attacking hitters. Stock on the mound will further develop as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a hard worker.

10/02/2016 - College PREP - Kansas City, KS Jacob is a lean LHP who will graduate in 2018. On the bump, this lefty throws a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He works through a strong balance point and has smooth overall actions. FB ranges from 64-66 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball has 2/8 shape with gradual break. Arm speed is maintained on changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 2 years to further develop, Jacob has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
