06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Jacob is a lanky OF/RHP that will graduate in 2014. Currently projects best on the mound for the next level. Arm strength is solid as he topped out at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with slight break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will rise as he continues to build more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls but needs to work on getting behind balls more to play through and continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Swing path is level and he makes consistent. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be. Jacob has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
