Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Jacob is a 2019 two-way player (SS/RHP) that competed well at the Baseball Factory Select Training and Competition at Pirate City. Offensively, he was aggressive attacking balls in the zone and was direct with his bat path. He stayed through the zone with his path and was simple in his approach. Jacob got his body into a strong, balanced position to attack the ball and had feel for the barrel. At short, he created good angles to make plays out in front. He played the game hard and had good actions to catch and throw. On the hill, he threw his FB and tight spinning 11/5 CB for strikes. He repeated his delivery with rhythm and tempo, and finished his pitches with his chest over his front knee. Jacob worked quickly to the plate, without sacrificing his lower half strength and had good feel for pitching, mixing his pitches to keep hitters off balance. In all - Jacob is an intriguing follow with a bright future as he matures and strengthens his ability.

06/25/2015 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Jacob is a young, lean, and athletic SS/RHP that will graduate in 2019 with a promising future on the diamond. At SS, defensive abilities are solid, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around ground balls and plays through with his body. Hands are soft / clean as he presents well out front and sure as he fields everything. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more, playing through and increases foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a direct swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a solid line drive approach. Power numbers will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 75-77 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late / sharp break and shows potential as being a quality pitch. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a solid feel for with sinking action. Slider resembles breaking ball and needs further development. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches and stays down in the zone. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. With 3 years to further develop, Jacob has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
